Pie - Salted Caramel Pie (Burnt Sugar Pie) Print Version
  • 1 baked pie crust
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 Tbl butter
  • 3 Tbl flour
  • 1 teaspoon ADAMS BEST VANILLA
  • 1/2 cup sugar (to make burnt sugar)
In saucepan, mix together all ingredients, except the 1/2 cup sugar and ADAMS BEST VANILLA, over medium-high heat.
In a skillet, cover bottom of pan with the 1/2 cup sugar. Bring heat up to medium. DO NOT STIR SUGAR. Allow the sugar to melt, then it will begin to turn brown. Remove from heat when sugar is brown and still liquid.
At the same time, mixture in saucepan will begin to boil. Mix burnt sugar into saucepan. Remove from heat and add ADAMS BEST VANILLA. Stir constantly until smooth and thick. Pour mixture into baked pie shell. Top with ADAMS BEST FLAVORED WHIPPED CREAM (recipe under icing and frosting), a drizzle of caramel topping, and sprinkle of extra course salt (optional)
