Chocolate Sheet Cake

This classic cake is the perfect "Bake and Take" to a family function, pot luck dinner, or gathering. 9x13 pan yields thicker cake. You can use up to a 18x13 sheet cake pan for a thinner cake.

15 minutes / 30 minutes

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ADAMS BEST
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour pan.

Heat butter, water, and cocoa over low heat until butter is melted. Let cool. Add to flour and sugar and mix well. Add remaining ingredients, mixing after each addition. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes.

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
Heat butter, cocoa, and buttermilk over low heat until butter is melted. Add to the powdered sugar and beat well. While cake is still warm, spread with frosting.
